"Imagine The Future of Aging" to Air on Twin Cities Public Television Nov. 11 at 8 p.m. and Downloadable at ecumen.org; Town Hall Forum Brings Creative Class Together to Discuss What Aging Could be

In just 13 years, Minnesota will for the first time have more people over the age of 65 than under age 18. What could that mean for Minnesota and America and how could the experience of growing older be different and better than it historically has been?

Ecumen, which is Minnesota's largest provider of senior housing and services, wondered what a multi-generational group of 15 of Minnesota's most creative people thought about that question and others and convened with the American Association for Homes and Services for the Aging a discussion convened by former Independence Party gubernatorial candidate Peter Hutchinson that will air from 8 p.m. – 9 p.m. on Saturday, November 11th on Twin Cities Public Television's Channel 17. It's also downloadable at ecumen.org.

"Aging and the historic demographic changes we face are so often framed in a negative manner," said Ecumen president and CEO Kathryn Roberts, "It's fascinating how some of the most creative people in Minnesota and America view the coming age wave and growing older. Their insights portend huge opportunities before this country."

The participants included Chuck Denny, former ADC Telecommunications Chairman; Mary Brainerd, CEO of HealthPartners; Fred Senn, co-founder of Fallon and co-author of Juicing the Orange: How to Turn Creativity into a Powerful Business Advantage; Al Quie, former Minnesota Governor; Burt Cohen, founding publisher of MSP Communications; Weiming Lu, president Lowertown Redevelopment Corporation; David Stillman, co-founder of Bridgeworks and co-author of the book When Generation Collide; Tom Swain, former vice president of institutional relations, University of Minnesota; Kathleen Ridder, author of Shaping My Feminist Life: A Memoir; Sue Zelickson, food editor, WCCO-AM; Nancy Koo, vice president, Lee Hecht Harrison; Jane Freeman, former first lady of Minnesota and former president of Girl Scouts USA; Mary Birchard, executive director, Alzheimer's Association, Minnesota; and Marion Etzwiler, former president and CEO, Minneapolis Foundation.

Housing Bubble to Deflate for at Least Two More Years, Despite Greenspan's Optimism

Last month, former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan said "the worst may well be over." But the "worst" is a frightening picture: Median prices for home sales have fallen sharply year-over-year, for two straight months, according to National Association of Realtors.

"In addition to being the largest price drops in at least 38 years," The Wall Street Journal reported, "the back-to-back declines are the first time median home prices have fallen since 1995." And the decline is hardly over.

According to Karim Rahemtulla, an Advisory Panelist for Investment U, based in Baltimore, Md., the situation is about to get much worse.

Must-Have Lawn Care Equipment Solves Yard Problems, Reports AllAboutLawns.com

With spring weather, homeowners begin to see the emergence of new lawn problems and need the right equipment to battle thatch, molds, crabgrass and root disease, reports AllAboutLawns.com, a comprehensive lawn and yard care resource. In his column, "Lawn Care Equipment to Repair and Restore," AllAboutLawns.com columnist Kelly Richardson describes vital equipment that is relatively inexpensive to own or can be rented from a lawn-care or home garden shop.

Richardson writes, "Taking action with special lawn equipment not only improves your lawn's chances of recovery, it also decreases the amount of work you will have to dedicate to the job." Keeping lawn mowers and mower parts in sound working order is essential, but Richardson adds that homeowners can save additional effort and money by avoiding lawn problems before they occur by owning or renting aeration and seeding equipment or by calling in a lawn care expert that knows how to use them.

Magnalight.com Adds Explosion Proof Fluorescent Lighting for Paint Spray Booth Operators

Magnalight.com announced the addition of several new products to its line of explosion proof fluorescent lighting, typically used in paint spray booths, manufacturing plants, oil rigs and other petrochemical industry applications. OSHA mandates that environments that are exposed to flammable vapors and dusts must use UL safety rated, explosion proof lighting. UL divides these environments by Class and Division. Class 1 Division 1 lights are ideal for environments that are constantly saturated with explosion proof petrochemical vapors, while Class II Division 1 lights are ideal for environments laden with combustible dusts, like sugar or grain dust. By definition, Division 1 rated explosion proof lighting is suitable for Division II environments, where combustible vapors and dusts are sometimes present in the air. Typically, large companies will have safety people on staff that will specify the appropriate explosion proof safety rating for the plant. Smaller operations, like automotive paint spray booths and furniture manufacturer spray booths, rely on local codes and OSHA specifications for guidance. Larson Electronics' line of explosion proof lighting includes fluorescent fixtures that are UL rated at Class 1 Division 1 and Class II Division I.
